So, I got really crazy this morning and decided to do a boot camp at my gym at 5:30 am. This after a week of eating and drinking, then eating and drinking some more, fairly non-stop. I am actually surprised to say, an hour after finishing my bleary-eyed workout, that I feel pretty good. I am fairly awake at this point and, since everyone else in my house is wisely still sleeping in, I thought this would be a good time to update my brand new blog.
For those who may not know me, the insane hour and the boot camp type workout, after a week's worth of high level indulgence, may indicate some kind of mental illness on my part. At the very least, it smacks of the kind of resolutions that the new year is famous for bringing on. I swear that neither are the case - I mean, the mental issues may well be, but that is probably not related to this story. I just like to work out and, though I don't usually classify myself as a morning person, I do like to get a jump start on the day. (I should actually be using my quiet time to make a grocery list for myself, as that activity is next on my agenda, but instead, I am musing on the reasons for self inflicted pain and punishment at an ungodly hour of the day.) Back to my point - this morning was about getting back into an exercise routine and about setting the tone for the rest of my week. Yes, I still have Christmas goodies (in the wonderful forms of food, chocolate and booze) in my house, and yes, I probably will enjoy finishing them off throughout the week, but, by getting through an intense workout before the sun has even peeked over the horizon, I have (mentally, at least) shifted myself from idle leniency to a more energetic structure. New Year's Resolution it is not, but my attitude and goals are not just for the month of January. It is a lifestyle and it is one that I not only enjoy, but also makes me feel better.
So, thanks, Christmas, with all the crazy-rich foods and multiple varieties of beer and wine. It has been a lot (and I do mean a LOT) of fun, but it is time for me to get back to work. A pre-Happy New Year to everyone. I hope 2010 brings you all the best things in life. Like exercising before the break of dawn. Happy New Year!
