Here we are in the final week of the first decade of the 21st century and what have I decided to do? I have decided, after talking about it for far too long, to start a blog. I know I am not the first, nor will I be the last, but I hope that this will give me the opportunity to write on a semi-regular basis about the things that matter to me. I really don't intend this to be a blog about anything in particular, though I am sure I will focus on a fairly short list of things in my life. So, in the spirit of introducing myself and, as I titled this entry, "starting something new", here is a rundown on me:
My name is Megan and I am 30 years old (although as my mother keeps reminding me, I will be 31 in a few weeks). I have been married for almost 10 years to my husband, Ron, and we have two daughters, ages 6 and almost 4. I am currently a culinary student, with an eye to graduate this May, and am passionate about food and wine (maybe a little too passionate about the wine). I stayed at home with my girls, full-time, until I took on a part time job this past semester. Because my work and school schedules conflicted for the spring, I am back to being at home with my youngest, for which I am actually thankful. I love to exercise (and will do almost any type of fitness class - group workouts motivate me more than anything else). I love to read, a passion shared by my husband and evidenced by the fact that almost every wall in our home sports a bookshelf. I love to spend time with my kids, my husband and my friends doing anything from playing outside, shopping, catching a movie, trying a new restaurant or just relaxing on the couch watching TV.
Like I said, I really don't intend for this blog to be about anything in particular. Several people have asked me what I plan to blog about - which niche I intend to add myself to. I did not want to write solely about food, myself or my kids mainly because I want to write about all of it. Hopefully, blogging will be beneficial to my writing skills and maybe I will manage to come up with something profound enough or humorous enough to make an impression on someone out there in the virtual world. My husband has suggested that if I spend as much time blogging as I do writing status updates on Facebook, I should be fairly successful. We will have to see, but it should (hopefully) be an interesting experiment.
All of that being said, stay tuned for the next installment of my random thoughts. As it is Christmas Eve, Merry Christmas to all!
